This year Homeless Gallery will be held at the unique exhibition space at Dilston Grove. For ten days in November Dilston Grove will become a temporary home for Homeless Gallery’s second edition. Organised by Deconstruction Project with the support of Polish Cultural Institute in London.

The idea for the Homeless Gallery was born in the minds of two well-acclaimed Polish photographers – Tomek Sikora and Andrzej Swietlik. The Homeless Gallery is a celebration of photography in its many forms, appears fleetingly wherever and whenever there is a need amongst photographers from various backgrounds to exhibit their works to a larger audience.

Homeless – because it has no permanent address, it appears for a short while, after which it disappears, only to reappear again in a completely different place. It appears wherever a place becomes available to give photography a home. The idea of organizing the Homeless Gallery is very simple. We look for a good location - empty factories awaiting reconstruction or other already established gallery spaces and when we find it we adapt it as the Homeless Gallery space. Everybody can show their work: professionals, students, amateurs, and hobbyists. There is no curatorship and no entry requirements. We have no demands as to a subject, technique, format or number of photographs shown as long as the space allows it.

Dilston Grove is the former Clare College Mission Church on the Southwest corner of Southwark Park and is Grade II listed. Designed by architects Sir John Simpson and Maxwell Ayrton, it was built in 1911 and is one of the earliest examples of poured concrete construction.

If you are a photographer by day or night, if you are a professional, a student or just a hobbyist and would like to share your view of the world with others through your work this is a show for you.  For anyone who would like to participate in the exhibition all you have to do is come to Dilston Grove on Friday November 12 (9-4pm) or Saturday November 13 (9-12pm) with your photographs and hang them yourself.

Polish Arts Festival 2010

8 - 12 September 2010

Southend-on-Sea

This year Deconstruction Project has joined forces with Hungry Arts and their other partners to organize second edition of the Polish Arts Festival in Southend on Sea.

The aim of the festival is to celebrate the very best of Polish culture and art, to develop new international artistic collaborations, and to help nurture the special relationship between Southend-on-Sea and Sopot, Southend`s Polish twin, on the Baltic Sea. Together with other participants we created an intensive artistic experience with each event offering its audience something uniquely special.

For the Polski Piknic on the 12th of September we have invited Jolanta Surma to lead workshops on Makrame Crafts (the art of knotting). We were also running Wycinanki workshops (the art of Polish paper cuts) for children.

Also as part of the Polish Arts Festival Deconstruction Project, supported by Metal Gallery has curated a five-day exhibition at Metal`s Chalkwell Hall Gallery Space. The exhibition: YPA’s_Metal, comprises of works by contemporary Polish artists living and working in London: Agata Grela, Renata Jaworska, Agnieszka Kucharko, Katarzyna Garapich-Depta and Eva Lis.

We have also organized a jazz concert at The Railway Hotel featuring Maciek Pysz Tio.

YPA_ Metal exhibition

8 - 12 September 2010

Private View - 11th September, 6pm-9pm

Metal at Chalkwell Hall

Chalkwell Avenue
Southend on Sea

"Young Polish Art at Metal" exhibition was our main artistic contribution to the Polish Arts Festival 2010. The aim of the show was to present new and recent works by emerging Polish artists living and working in the UK as a part of a festival, which celebrates traditional Polish art and culture abroad.

The exhibition comprises of works by : Renata Jaworska, Agata Grela, Katarzyna Depta-Garapich, Eva Lis and Agnieszka Kucharko.

This is the first time the London based Polish arts organization, Deconstruction Project, are curating a show, which not only forms an important contemporary visual element to the Polish Arts Festival at Southend-on-Sea, but also puts forward their agenda of a Polish identity interlacing itself into the fabric of British art.

Each artist explores the fragmentation of identity and sites of tension as they encounter themselves in everyday life. By transforming their experiences into art, the processes they engage with can be revelatory, disappointing, painstaking or even add to the confusion of multi-culturalism. However, through deconstruction comes reconstruction and thus even in failure or the demonstration of failure these artists hope to create fruitful experiences for both themselves and their audiences.

 Monika Lidke Quartet

Monika Lidke is a singer and a songwriter whose fresh and unique bossa nova like songs in English, Polish, and French with elements of folk, jazz and Latin smoothly blend together and make each performance truly remarkable. Monika Lidke has been successfully performing on the Jazz scene since 2004. Some of the venues include Ronnie Scotts, Charlie Wrights International, Oliver`s Music Bar, Pizza Express Soho and the London Jazz Festival’09.

Her debut album brought attention to Sarah Ward (Jazz Fm) who considers it a fresh and individual addition to contemporary jazz scene.

“Disarmingly lovely trilingual folk-jazz singer Lidke headlines here with her fragile, melodic originals, she sounds like a space-jazz take on Stina Nordenson`s icy charms with bossa nova undercurrents.”
